When Mother Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize she was asked, "What can we do to promote world peace?" She answered, "Go home and love your family."

My church is very nice. They have the best church coffee in the county, sometimes they play bluegrass music in the preschool area, and there is a swimming pool on the premises. But they don’t have a zoo, although when I am in charge of the four- year-olds it usually looks and feels like a zoo in that particular classroom.

The Livingston County United Way is hosting a couple of contests for area teens in connection with the 9th Annual Day of Caring scheduled for Aug. 18. Last year’s Day of Caring featured volunteers from 120 area companies at 68 different work sites. 20 seniors or shut-ins received help at their homes, and food drives were held at eight area grocery stores. Talented local teens can get involved by designing a logo or video for promoting this event.

Some people are like me. They go to church to try to find a way to keep their sorry sinning self out of hell. They pick the church they imagine will give them the best chance of avoiding that eventuality.

The crowd applauds as the bodies sink beneath the icy water. Policemen and firemen stand by unconcerned. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

My son and I arrived between 12:30 and 1 p.m. at a little grassy muddy snowy parking lot in Whitmore Lake that is already just about full.

MerryTuba Christmas (http://www.tubachristmas.com) is an event not especially subject to review. Like UFO sightings or the Aurora Borealis, it must be experienced to be understood. It touched down locally on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m.
